Home Control (2412) for Android
v1.03 21 Oct 2011
Overview
Home Control works only with the
Smartlinc 2412N. If you don't have one, this app is useless. Designed for
Android 1.6 and up. Contains advertisements. Currently in beta, you can download it here.
Change log is below. Post bug reports and suggestions in the
Support Forum.
Home Control is a simple Android app that gives you basic control over your
Insteon devices. I find this app is much more convenient to use than the
built-in Smartlinc web pages; I hope you do too. If you want something more
complete, try the app from MobiLinc.
You must set your Android device to accept apps from "unknown sources" before
it will install.
Features
- Tap on-and-off, tap-and-hold for more options.
- All-off, with adjustable delay between devices.
- Optional password protection (coming soon).
- Control of a single EzFlora or EzRain sprinkler controller (multiple
controllers soon).
- Quick access to the Smartlinc main and thermostat web pages.
- Quickly add, edit, or delete devices.
- Re-ordering of devices.
- Backup and restore your list of devices.
- Export and import your list of devices using a delimited text file.
- Assign colors to particular devices.
- In-app help.
Setup
- Get yourself a Smartlinc and install it. Use any web browser to navigate
to its web pages. Make a note of the IP address and port number. In the
app, tap "Settings", and enter those two values. (the app will
add the "http://" to your IP address if you leave it off).
- Obtain the Insteon address(es) of your device(s). This is in the form "XX.XX.XX",
where X is 0 through 9 or A through F. The address is printed on a sticker on the module, or
you can get the address by using "add device" through the Smartlinc web
pages. Control 2412 does not automatically get the device addresses.
- On the main page of the app, tap your menu button, then tap the "Add" button. On the
edit screen, enter the address of the device, in the form "12.0A.F9" for Insteon. Enter a name for the device; this will appear on the
main list. Optionally enter a description. Tap Save Device when finished..
- Continue for every device you want to control.
Usage
On the main list, tap the right side of the device bar to turn it
on, and the left side to turn it off. For devices that support dimming,
tap-and-hold the bar, then select Set Brightness. To edit a device, tap-and-hold
and select Edit Device.
Feedback
This is a free app, so every expense has been spared. I have set up a forum for
questions, answers, comments, and suggestions
here.
